Japanese knotweed is the most destructive terrestrial invasive plant in the UK, breaking up hard standing and even walls.
With roots up to 4 m deep and being able to establish from as little as a 2mm section, it is hard to control. Methods include poisoning, digging up, and the newest, the introduction of a natural Japanese knotweed predator, a species of psyllid imported into this country (following extensive trials to ensure it did not become an invasive itself).
