The third edition of the Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) Good Practice Guidelines was recently released. To save you the trouble of reading this extensive document we have extracted key points we think you need to know.
Significant increases in the level of bat activity survey effort are described below and are likely to affect all future planning applications (please note that two surveys carried out within a 24 hour period constitute 1 survey visit);
Static detectors should also be used on all activity surveys. Further significant changes to the guidelines include the addition of a new chapter, chapter 33 on Preliminary Ecological Appraisal for Bats which addresses the increasing need to assess the potential impacts the proposal will have on bats on and off site. Depending on the size and status of a proposed development offsite surveys may also be needed. For further information regarding the guideline changes and how this may affect you contact enquiries@jfa.co.uk, or if you’d like to see our quick guides on survey effort which are available to download click here. |
